“Get up Zoe, its Raffle for a ride!” Mum shakes me but I’m still half asleep. I remembered that three days ago Abby, my friend got drawn out of nearly every one in the school for one of the Raffle For A ride prizes. She got to chose 2 friends to go with her and she chose me and Sumayah! I jump out of bed and get ready and then mum drives me to Abbys house.

As I walk in the door Abby is talking to the More FM people on the phone. We all listen quietly. Soon Sumayah comes and then all of a sudden the More FM car drives up Abbys driveway. We drive to Mc Donalds and we waited at the counter, trying to figure out what we wanted and then all of a sudden we were all on the radio. “What are you going to get, Zoe?” said Gareth. “Umm, I think I am going to get a Hash Brown, but I don’t know what else”. I said nervously. After a while Abby Sumayah and I Chose pancakes each but me and Sumayah couldn’t eat our last one.

After we had eaten out breakfast we drove around the block because it was to early to go to school. After a drive around the block we went to school. I saw the wheelbarrow on the way and heaps of other rides. “Hi!” I yelled out to all the people from school that were watching. Gareth asked “Did you enjoy your ride?”. “Yes! Thanks so much, it was lots of fun!” I said and we got out of the car and got a photo.

I really enjoyed my ride to school and I really enjoyed being on the radio. It was so much fun and I wish I could do it again and again. Thanks More FM!

Moldova Flag:

In the middle is eagle. Instead of a sword, the eagle is holding an olive branch,   symbolizing peace. This flag is similar to the national flags of Chard and Andorra, which are all based on vertical stripes of blue, yellow, and red.

Finland Flag:

On the white back ground the is a  blue Nordic cross that represents Christianity. Finland’s  flag is based on the Scandinavian cross. The blue represents the country’s lakes and the sky and white represents the snow that covers Finland in the winter.

Switzerland Flag:

The Switzerland national flag represents freedom, honor, and fidelity. This flag is a common flag style from medieval times.

Jordan Flag:

The Jordan flag is designed according to the flag during Arab Revolt in World War I.

All the colors and the star of the flag have different meanings.

I feel my body vibrate as I drive to the Regent Theater, we turn a corner and I can see King Street right in front of me. Its dark and all the lights in the street are on. My mum drops me off and my heart beats fast, “Bye” I yell out to her before she walks off to find my dad and my brother. I find Jasmine and we walk together to our changing rooms. “You nervous?” she asks. “Yes!” I say. We finally find our changing room and put our bags on the floor as all of our friends say hi. Time passes quickly as we are putting our makeup on, and then all of a sudden the show starts and we all listen for the crowd going wild, they do.

I had to do my make up about three times because it kept on wearing off. In the long wait me and my friends played twister, played on our ipods, hung out in the hall way, ate food and listened to the things that were happening on the stage through the speaker. Finally the time came and my class formed a line. Kat (our dance teacher) was there and she told us to have big moves, sharp moves, to smile and to have fun. We all nervously walked down the steps down the stage and waited for the time to come again. I was a prop in our buddy classes dance so I quickly walked out onto the dark stage. It was weird because I couldn’t see the crowd at all! Our buddies did their dance and then after a while it was finished. I carefully walked off stage and got ready for my classes Rugby Dance. Connor did some Rugby moves and my group (group 1) and the other group (group 2) ran onto the stage and formed two circles around Connor. Connor pushed one of us over and we all fell down like dominoes. we split up into our groups and did some really cool moves based on the opening of the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. After that we made two lines and Connor ran through us, as he did we all fell over at the same times as he ran passed us. Then we made a scrum and Connor was in the middle.

The music went quiet and we ran off stage, took off our rugby jerseys. The girls had sparkly tops on and the boys had sparkly ties and bands on. My class and our buddy class quietly walked on stage and stood still while a quick Rugby movie played. We were all so nervous. I twitched as the music turned on and the lights lightened up. This is going to be awesome I thought to myself. All of us did the dance perfectly and we walked off the stage proud of what we did.

It was an amazing night and we rocked the whole place!

On Friday a group called Rhythm Interactive came to our school to teach us how to play a drum called Djembe. “Action Speaks louder than words” was their slogan.

I walked through the doors of the hall, I didn’t know what to expect when I saw hundreds of rows of drums laid out perfectly. I heard the noises of the drums as other kids started playing. It was such an amazing sound when more and more started so I decided to join in to.

“This is so cool!” said Abby, “yer” answered Jessie and I. We sat ourselves down in front of a drum and we all started hitting the drum like crazy to the beat. The man that was showing us how to play the drums was not talking at all but we still knew what he wanted us to do. How did he do that?

After a long time full of amazement our hands started to ache and the drumming started to settle down. They asked if we had any questions and heaps of people put their hands up. I learnt that actions speak louder than words. I will never forget how to play the Djembe.

It was an amazing performance and it was our performance.

Snowing in Palmerston North!

Last night for the first time in 80 years it snowed in Palmerston North! It was so much fun and wish that it will snow again tonight! Me, my dad and my brother had a snow ball fight and my dad got the best shot ever, right in the face! In the morning I woke up and all the snow had turned into ice. My brother and I jumped on it and it made a huge cracking sound. When we drove to school I watched all the cars go by covered in ice. I thought to myself, lucky we put our can in the shed.

When we got to school I sat on the mat then all of a sudden Lou appeared at the door with the rest of his class, Stephen and Lou told us to do a bare feet run on the field. It was sooooooooo cold!! Most of the boys, Stephen, Lou and a couple of the girls including me all took our shoes off and started on the horrible run. I felt the ice on my cold feet, it felt like glass digging in and cutting my feet. After we all crowded around the heater in our class room and heated our feel up again. “I am never goin to do that again!” I said.  I really hope it snows again in Palmerston North, in my life.

Here are the before and after photos of my house!

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday a lady from the Council came in and taught us about Composting! It was a lot of fun and I learnt a lot! I learnt what a compost needs which is water, air, worms, heat, carbons, nitrogens and methane gas.

I learnt what you can put into you compost which is food scraps, hair/fur, tea leafs, tea bags, coffee grinds, green leafs, grass clippings, dry leafs, dead plants, paper, cardboard, saw dust, sea weed, prunings, vacuum dust, wood chips, ash and hay (dry grass).

Did you know that when it rains and the compost is not covered the worms come to the top so that they don’t drown?

So now I am going to make my own compost at home!!

The Tryathlon

Yesterday we had the senior triathlon at Russell Street School. It went from 9:30 till brunch.

All of my class sat down on the grandstand and I could not wait until I could start my swim, bike and run but unfortunately the year 6 girls had to go last.

Later on my house group started yelling, “Kea, Kea, Kea!” I joined in too. We saw all of the year four girls racing out of the swimming pool, they looked so excited. The girls hopped on their bikes and they vanished.

Before I knew it Joy called up the year six girls and I started to feel really nervous. My thoughts scrambled through my mind. What was going to happen? Was Jessie and I going to win?

When I got down from the grandstand and down to Joy I could not wait to get into the race after all.

Next we led ourselves down to the school pool. As I walked in the gate I saw the shimmering water as the determined races freestyled to the end of the pool. I imagined what I would do when I got into the pool.

After we all sat down against the fence, James told us what was going to happen. My name was called out and I hopped into the pool. Once I was in the cold refreshing water I knew we could win.

All of a sudden the screaming whistle went and my arms and legs went wild until I got to the end of the pool. My arms pumped myself up the side of the pool wall and out, then I knew I was all alone.

I ran as fast as I could to Jessie as she waited for me. Then Jessie sprinted to her bike I screamed, “Go Jessie!” I could not wait until the run!

Later on I met Jessie after her biking. She tagged my hand and off I went again, running around the field. When I had finished my run I was exhausted. I tagged Jessie’s hand for the last time and then we both raced to the finish line. I looked back and I saw the rest of my heat sprinting behind us and we both speed up.

Lastly Jessie and I sprinted to the finish line fast! I felt like I was going to collapse about 5 meters from the finish line but I kept going and we finished in first place.

I am very pleased that Jessie and I won the race and it was so much fun! I can’t wait until the next sporting event!
